The FW21 “Urban Utility” capsule will be available in The North Face stores beginning August 1st. The poem recounts the desire one feels towards wild and inaccessible mountain landscapes, perfectly reflecting the spirit of exploration that has distinguished The North Face since its foundation. Inside the lining of the jacket we find a small poem that recalls an interview given by Kenneth “Hap” Klopp in which the co-founder of TNF refers to Jack Kerouac’s masterpiece “On the Road”. The standout feature of this new capsule is a ten-pocket jacket in DryVent waterproof fabric, featuring straps and buckles that mix functionality and aesthetics, but that’s not all. One of the characteristics of this capsule is the palette of soft and natural colors such as khaki, dark blue, olive green and purple that fits perfectly in what is the urban landscape but also performs well in outdoor contexts.

It’s available now in The North Face stores and selected retailers in Hong Kong and Taiwan. Having in consideration both releases, “The Dialogue of Urban Exploration” ranges from usd$85 to usd$260, approximately. If there’s anything to highlight about this entire collection is the Packable feature that allows users to fold pants and jackets into water-bottle sized, lightweight items. What’s curious about it is that it hides a short poem inside the lining referencing an interview given by Kenneth Klopp (co-founder of the brand), in which he cites Jack Kerouac’s On the Road, a piece that describes the spirit of exploration and the thrill of diving into wildness.

Among other items, like Flashdry T-shirts, this capsule features a waterproof ten-pocket jacket (about usd$260) made in engineered DryVent, one of TNF’s signature fabrics. “Urban Utility” is the second and most recent release so far. In this first release we could find windproof jackets, crew-neck and neutral graphic logo t-shirts, as well as utility cargo-pants and shorts. In soft, earth tones -khaki, olive green, dark blue and purple- this first release is inspired by urban architecture, comprising contemporary and multipurpose garments that contrast the concrete scene. Dubbed “Dialogue of Urban Exploration”, the series comprises three different approaches to cityscape under the capsules “Urban Sprawl”, “Urban Utility” and “Urban Elegance”.Įach series references a unique dialogue with the city, starting with “Urban Sprawl”. Sub-label The North Face Urban Exploration has been working on a three-part collection for the Fall/Winter season of 2021.
